Course Overview
The idea for Psychology in Action arose from both the proven popularity of psychology and to help students be fully, and accurately, informed about the nature of psychology and what it has to offer in both study and vocation.
Psychology in Action takes a different approach in that it is intended to stimulate interest by focusing on 'what psychologist's do' within various specialist areas.
The book is structured in four modules. Module One is an introduction to psychology and introduces students to the nature of psychology and all of the specialist areas. It also introduces students to the importance of good research, equipping them with the necessary skills to scientifically question and undertake their own research in a more meaningful way. This will also prepare students for their studies in all science subjects. Modules Two, Three and Four explore Sport, Clinical and Forensic psychology respectively, outlining the roles of psychologists working in these areas as well as some of the relevant concepts they would study and apply.
Psychology in Action is uniquely flexible. As there are no external exams to teach for or criteria for assessment, what is studied and how many 'detours' are taken can be decided by teachers and their students. The material in Psychology in Action can therefore be taught as a full year, half year or term only subject and would compliment any general science curriculum.
